As a jet-setting socialite, Ghislaine Maxwell was used to receiving special treatment as she rubbed elbows with elite celebrities around the world. As an inmate, Ghislaine Maxwell is still receiving special treatment while on suicide watch in the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Brooklyn, New York.
Special treatment while locked up in the MDC is coming directly from her powerful family. Maxwell’s family has directly filed an appeal to the United Nations regarding her treatment claiming, “This is unprecedented discrimination, the like of which has never seen before: All her applications for bail have been rejected, with no regard for the security offered”, and “It is as if Ghislaine Maxwell is suffering the consequences for the failure of the U.S. Administration to preserve the life of Jeffrey Epstein and secure his appearance at trial.”
Mrs. Maxwell’s bail requests have been repeatedly rejected in court due to her being considered an extreme flight risk. Given her immense wealth, connections with rich and powerful foreign dignitaries, and history of world travel, Mrs. Maxwell has been considered too dangerous to be allowed to walk free while awaiting trial. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Mrs. Maxwell, using her connections, could escape the United States to a country without an extradition treaty, giving the government few options for returning her home. In addition, her extensive travel to the United Arab Emirates and her connections to the Emirati Royal Family, this is a high possibility.
Already, Mrs. Maxwell, currently jailed as she awaits her trial on November 29th, has filed several high-profile complaints through her lawyers about her treatment. Her lawyer, Bobbi Sternheim, is said to the judge “Maxwell’s conditions of detention for the past 16 months continue to be reprehensible and utterly inappropriate for [a] woman on the cusp of turning 60 with no criminal record or history of violence. It is unwarranted, unrelenting, and utterly inappropriate.”
Since entering custody last July, through her family and lawyers, Mrs. Maxwell has raised issue with the following:
“Insufficient nutrition”, referring to the quality and serving size of food served in the mess hall
Length and frequency of phone calls permitted to outsiders
General hostility and “over management” from prison guards
The lack of full contact visitation rights
Poor and unsanitary living conditions
Constant surveillance from security cameras as she moves about the facility
The amount of time allowed for exercise
The lack of entertainment options (specifically, television channels and movies)
Flashlight checks every 15 minutes at night to ensure that inmates have not escaped (they interfere with her sleep schedule)
Mrs. Maxwell’s family filing a complaint to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention should come as no surprise to anyone who follows the politics behind the situation. Many of the high-profile politicians and captains of industry that Mrs. Maxwell has been linked to are Democrats, and the United Nations has taken a staunchly liberal position on many world issues.
The United Nations is openly anti-Israel, denying Israel rights enjoyed by all other nations and showing a hostility towards the country that is openly embraced and funded by the other members. Sanctions against Israel are regularly brought up for actions that are ignored for other members such as China and Russia. Should a country take a pro-Israel stance, they are likely to face ostracization within the organization, such as when Canada lost a seat on the Security Council to Portugal in 2010 due to supporting Israeli actions to securing their border. The United Nations makes no secret about joining the anti-Israel leftist liberals who hate our strongest and most secure Middle Eastern ally.
The United Nations openly supports the People’s Republic of China’s “One China” policy, which says that the self-governing island of Taiwan is part of China. Joanne Ou, a representative from Taiwan to the United Nations, is quoted as saying “The United Nations talks about justice and human rights, yet they pretend we [Taiwain] don't exist. It's humiliating, ridiculous and childish."
Once again, the United Nations shows their true colors by backing communist China. Supporting China despite their long list of human rights violations while openly sanctioning Israel for theirs? What kind of liberal hypocrisy is this?
In 2017, an Associated Press investigation revealed that United Nations peacekeepers had been instrumental in organizing a child sex ring in Haiti. This led to a larger investigation, which showed that over the past decade before, there had been over 2,000 allegations of child rape, molestation, and prostitution by U.N. forces, yet they were all swept under the rug. It would seem that wherever the United Nations goes, child sex crimes come with it. It should not surprise anyone that an organization with a history of covering up child sex allegations would be viewed as a safe haven for Ghislaine Maxwell’s family’s appeals.
While it may seem humorous to see Ghislaine Maxwell’s family appealing to the United Nations regarding her treatment, this is no laughing matter. She is locked up without bail where she belongs.
