WARREN BUFFET’S CHECKLIST

Warren Buffett is the greatest long-term investor ever.

At the age of 11, he bought his first three company shares for a total of $114. Fast-forward 80 years, and at the age of 93, he has a net worth of $117 billion.

Here is a simple checklist of picking stocks like Buffett:

Remember that Warren Buffett is a very advanced investor who uses things like discounted cash flow models, among other things. This list is a simple, broad checklist.

  1. “If the business does well, the stock usually follows.”

When you invest in a stock, you own the company. He looks for businesses that have favorable long-term prospects. This is why I believe in investing in stocks you know and understand for the long term. He might go all in if the stock trades lower than he values the business worth. For example, if you love the business at $40 a share, and the stock is trading at $20, you should buy the stock. Buffett is an accounting genius. He taught himself accounting and used the discounted cash flow method to value companies.

2. Ask yourself these questions when determining the long-term prospect of the business:

Does the company have a consistent operating history? Is it the dominant business in its sector? Is the business generating high and sustainable profit margins?

Let’s use Apple as an example. The company has a consistent operating history since 1976. Apple is dominating the cell phone and computer space.

  1. “Our favorite holding period is forever."

Warren Buffett says, “If you do not feel comfortable holding a stock for 10 years, you shouldn’t hold it for 10 minutes.”

Emotions are the hardest part of investing. Fear can cause you to sell at the bottom. At the same time, greed can cause you to buy at the top.
