Stock Deep Dive: SentinelOne Inc. (S-US, $7.6B Market Cap)
Warren Buffet once said, “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.”
CrowdStrike just had their five minutes.
On July 19, 2024, the fragility of our entire digital infrastructure was on full display.
The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) flashed everywhere as flights were grounded, hospitals faced disruptions and delays, broadcasters were taken off air, and multiple payment platforms were unable to send out paychecks.
This outage was caused by a critical error from once-dominant cybersecurity company CrowdStrike (CRWD).
However, one company’s misstep provides an opportunity for its competitors.
The company in this month’s issue is a direct competitor and will see business start to flow their way.

Why Now? 👉 Competitor Snafu Opens The Door
What Happened? As a result of a faulty update to CrowdStrike Falcon sensor configuration for Windows systems (intended to enhance security by targeting newly observed malicious activities) there was an inadvertent logic error that led to widespread system crashes and blue screens of death (BSOD) on affected machines.
How this happens to a company with such a broad reach deploying a mission-critical application is very confusing to me. Why not push this update to a certain subset of users to first test if it doesn’t crash the system? Someone definitely gets fired for doing this.
While CrowdStrike is pushing into other verticals, their primary capabilities are around end-point detection. The most direct competitor in the space is SentinelOne, so let’s dig into what they do and how they will win over this business.
