TRUMP: Bitcoin Reserve

At the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, former President Donald Trump made several promises to the Bitcoin community for his 2024 campaign. He pledged to create a national Bitcoin reserve and fire SEC Chairman Gary Gensler on his first day, replacing him with someone more crypto-friendly.

Trump also promised the government would keep its Bitcoin holdings instead of auctioning them off. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also spoke, proposing a 4 million Bitcoin reserve if elected. While Trump’s plan is less ambitious, it marks a notable Republican shift towards Bitcoin.

EARNINGS: McDonald’s

Revenue was flat at $6.49 billion compared to last year. Same-store sales decreased by 1%, missing the expected 0.4% growth. U.S. same-store sales fell 0.7%, impacted by reduced consumer spending. McDonald’s launched a $5 meal deal to attract customers, extending it beyond the initial four weeks due to a positive response. Internationally, same-store sales fell 1.1% in key markets like France and Germany and 1.3% in China and Japan, impacted by boycotts and struggling sales in China.

HUGE: Deadpool & Wolverine

"Deadpool & Wolverine" broke box office records this weekend, earning $205 million domestically—the highest 2024 debut and R-rated film opening ever.

Exceeding expectations of $160-180 million, the film also made $233.3 million internationally, totaling $438.3 million globally. This is the 34th MCU film and Disney's first R-rated installment. Previous R-rated Deadpool films were by 20th Century Fox, which Disney acquired in 2019.
