ALZHEIMER: Drug Approved
The FDA has approved Eli Lilly's Alzheimer’s drug donanemab for adults with early Alzheimer’s. Nearly 7 million Americans have Alzheimer’s, the fifth-leading cause of death for adults over 65. This number is expected to double by 2050 nearly.

This approval is a win for Eli Lilly after previous setbacks. Donanemab will compete with Biogen and Eisai’s treatment, Leqembi. Both drugs, targeting amyloid plaques, slow Alzheimer’s progression in early stages. Donanemab slowed progression by 35% over 18 months in trials. It costs $12,522 for six months, $32,000 for 12 months, and $48,696 for 18 months, with Medicare coverage available.
